AIB South Mall Cork
AIB Bank sits on the corner of South Mall Street. It is an early Twenty Century, Edwardian / Italianate style, built 1909-14, former premises of Munster and Leinster Bank.
The building has distinctive features in locally sourced limestone, such as paned timber casement windows, fluted Ionic columns, molded modillion cornices, a balustrade to attic storey, limestone lettering, Ashlar apron panels and a decorative frieze.
DFG architects undertook a number of architectural conservation works to this nationally significant building to the external fabric including repair and selective replacement of carved limestone sections of the facade, restoration of original stonework drainage systems to upper balcony areas, and restoration of timber windows.
